When i started to check things about Georgia online to plan my travel , I must say I was bit skeptical about travelling to this country. I had few questions in my mind. Whether it is worth to travel to Georgia ? Does Visiting Georgia make me feel happy ? .. But believe it or not folks, this place which I am going to take a tour for you solely made me to travel to Georgia. Result is that we had an awe-inspiring experience. 😀
Another thing to mention here is that prior to travel, we had a wish to see the mountains covered with snow. But , as it was a season of Autumn in Georgia, We had got information that the temperature would be less hotter compared to summer and it is less likely that we get a chance to see mountains covered with snow 😦 .
Even for the fact that we will not be able to see the mountains covered with snow, We did have an astonishing experience. Let me walk you through it. After being hugged by the beautiful mountains at Jvari Pass , we headed to a town called Stepantsminda, which is just 10 Km away from the Russian border. It was an amazing journey again filled with lush green mountains on either side of the road. By this time, we had completely fallen in love with these Caucasus mountains. 😀
When we were nearing to Stepantsminda, there was something marvelous awaiting us. Yes, it was the time our wish was about to become true 😀 . A mammoth mountain partially filled with snow 😀 . Yes you have to know, it is called by the name Mount Kazbegi ,Georgia’s Third highest mountain 🙂 . The level of excitement took a spike when I saw this mountain and the desperation got increased to see it from near distance.
After reaching the town, It was time for us to experience something crazy. We planned to go to the trinity church which is at the top of mountain. We took this Soviet Union time car named Niva to travel to the top. Believe me , this car looked small but it was very strong. It can take lot of beating you know.
Note : It will cost you 50 GEL per trip to travel to Trinity church from the Stepantsminda town and come back.
We started our journey to the top. I must say it was really a bumpy ride. The complete path is filled with rocks and uneven roads. You can notice that the trinity church looks so cute at the top on the way.
Note : You can also trek to the trinity church from the town and it takes around 3 hours to reach.
On the way to trinity church, you also get to see a beautiful view of the Stepantsminda town and of course , the stunning eye catching mountains 🙂
Post 30 minutes of a bumpy ride, we finally reached to the top 🙂 . There was something incredible awaiting us over there .
On one side at the top, we saw this beautiful Gergeti Trinity church :). We felt like wow after seeing this 🙂 . Come on , who will build a church at this much height ! 😀 .
On the opposite side of the church , We happened to see Jaw dropping view of the Mount Kazbegi :). Looking at this mesmerizing thing , It reminded me one of the quotes from John Muir which says “You are not in the mountains, the mountains are in you” . Yes, the mountains were in us. You must definitely see this in real . Words are not enough to express this natural beauty. 🙂 Do Check out this image once 😀 ! Purely Classic 🙂 . The more you embrace them, the more you fall for them . 😉
Could not stop taking pics with this kind of a background 🙂 ! What a view it was . Another place to add it in your bucket list 🙂 . Never miss this place if you get a chance to visit Georgia 😀 !
After embracing these mountains, we walked to the trinity church. It is situated on the right bank of the river Chkheri, at an elevation of 2170 meters, under Mount Kazbegi and was built in the 14th century. The separate bell tower dates from the same period as the church itself. Its isolated location on top of a steep mountain surrounded by the vastness of nature has made it a symbol for Georgia.
There is an option to perform paragliding near the mount Kazbegi but it will cost you a whooping 120 USD per person. We did not opt for that as we felt it was expensive. This church also offers breathtaking panoramic views of the beautiful caucasus mountains and the Stepantsminda town. Do you know that whole of these mountains will be covered with snow during winter ?! 🙂
It was a charismatic feeling being at the top :). We did not feel like leaving this place at all. We stayed at this place for around 1 hour 30 minutes. Unfortunately, we had to leave as it was getting dark. We reached back to the town after another bumpy ride.
When we went down, It was about to sunset and there was again something beautiful awaiting us. Yes, it is the gigantic view of the Mount Kazbegi with Trinity church . The thirst to see this scenic view was never getting decreased. We kept on gazing at this thing again and again 🙂 . They both look awesome together . Aren’t they ? 😀
Note : There are lot of hotels and restaurants in the Stepantsminda town. You can always pre-book it. It is always better to travel to this place during Spring, Summer or Autumn. Roads might get blocked during winter because of Snow.
Folks, How are you feeling about this place ? Isn’t it mind blowing ? Then.. what are you waiting for ? .. Pack your bags and travel to Georgia 🙂 !
I hope these pics will make you feel like travelling to Georgia. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment here.
